Opioid Overdose Prevention
Opioid Overdose Prevention (OOP) is an evidence-informed training designed by Nevada County Public Health to empower individuals and communities to take proactive steps in preventing opioid overdoses and reducing stigma. This training offers essential information on the proper use of naloxone (Narcan) and fentanyl test strips. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of opioids and fentanyl, learn how to recognize the signs of an overdose, and acquire the knowledge needed to effectively administer naloxone and utilize fentanyl test strips to help save lives.
Delivery: In-Person or Virtual
Audience: Anyone & Everyone!
We have delivered this training to students middle school and above, school staff, parent groups, workplace audiences: government, health care, ski industry, HR deparments, etc.
Training Time: 60-90 minutes (training can be modified to meet the needs of the audience and learning goals)
15 minutes basic naloxone demonstration
30 minute first aid response to an overdose
2+ hours can include broader topics like dismantling stigma and more harm reduction strategies
Goals:
Identify the signs and symptoms of opioid overdoses
Understand and apply opioid overdose prevention strategies
Learn how to use naloxone (Narcan) to reverse opioid overdoses
Access local opioid overdose prevention resources in our community
OOP trainings are an important step in building a safer, more informed community ready to respond effectively to opioid overdoses and support individuals affected by substance use.
